Change the Date

National Indigenous Television & SBS
NITV Change the Date VR Project

Start Beyond was approached by National Indigenous Television (NITV) and SBS this year to be the VR partner in the creation of a very special 360° music video ‘Change the Date’, to be released in the lead-up to January 26.

Featuring a lineup of some of Australia's biggest hip-hop artists, the powerful music experience places viewers up close and personal in the studio during a musical performance by the artists: Urthboy (The Herd), Thundamentals (Tuka and Jeswon), L-Fresh the Lion, Ozi Batla, Nooky, Birdz (Nathan Bird), Kaylah Truth, Tasman Keith, Coda Conduct (Erica and Sally) and Hau (Koolism).

Shot with Start Beyond's own Nokia Ozo, the Start Beyond and NITV teams utilised the camera’s suite of lenses and live vision technology to provide artists with the creative freedom to leverage the full studio space and capture the energy of their authentic and powerful performances.

Post produced in the Start Beyond suites, the project was written, shot and edited and released to Facebook, YouTube and SBS app the following week. Spearheaded by Elefant Traks and Bad Apples labels, the talented group of artists all collaborated to produce the original song “Change the Date” that voices the imperative movement. Start Beyond was privileged to join forces with the NITV aboriginal production team to create a video which holds so much significance and is delighted to see the piece already garnering significant media attention, gathering over 100k online views in the first 24 hours and is well on its way to making 2017 the year Australia will #ChangeTheDate.
